New Walking Program Launches Thursday

August 30, 2010

You’re looking around at your favorite coffee shop or froyo hangout when a flyer on the community board catches your eye.

Unnamed Charitable Group is planning benefit 5K. You dig the UCG’s mission but, you think, there’s no way you’re doing a 5K. After all, you’re not a runner. And, how far is a 5K anyway?

The good news is, anyone can do a 5K if they train for it. And you definitely don’t have to be a runner. By the way, a 5K is 3.1 miles.

If you’ve ever thought about a 5K, participated in one and want to do it again, or just want to add a little more physical activity to your world, come out to Sequoyah Hills Park at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday, September 2.

The Knoxville Track Club is launching a walking program to help folks get ready for the CrossKnox 5K, which is October 10. Participants will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays to train together leading up to the race. KTC will over the program in regular cycles throughout the year help folks train for upcoming races.

Participants will receive a program-specific T-shirt and other goodies, like pedometers, healthy recipes and more.
